Standing on the deck as the port infrastructure of Melilla slowly recedes into the distance, the white-painted fortifications and modern Spanish architecture blend together against the North African coast. The deep blue of the Alboran Sea stretches out ahead, promising a straight shot across the Mediterranean toward the rugged mountains of Andalusia.
